The Perfect Butcher for Vegetarians

The aim for this project was to design a menu for TheButcher’s Wife in a way that represents the restaurants image. Targeted towards lovers of vegetarian food, juice, and wine bars, this restaurant menu was designed using plant colours and shapes. Keeping the design elements simple an din the background.

Sketching from Start to Finish

While designing this menu, it was very important to establish a size that would be ideal for crowded tables while also being big enough to contain all the information. A wordmark also had to be designed, along with icons that would be used on the menu. In between sketches and consultations with the client, the menu design and style were chosen, as well as the wordmark and colour palette though, the colour palette was refined once again towards the end of the design process. Originally, the drinks menu was supposed to be on the same menu as the food but, after flowing all the type in, it was clear that there wouldn’t be enough room. This was resolved by creating a separate menu to showcase the items at the wine bar.

Combining Small Designs with Readability

The final design delivers a small yet very readable food and drink menu. The drink menu sits very nicely inside the food menu, with slightly different colours to distinguish the two apart while keeping the same design themes. The menu designs were received very positively, with loving comments about the subtle leaf design throughout the menus. Looking back, spending more time on the meal combos, and making it more of a statement piece would catch more customers attention.
